The Minnesota Timberwolves hadn’t had a legitimate franchise star since Kevin Garnett.

That’s no disrespect to Kevin Love or Karl-Anthony Towns whatsoever; we’re talking about having one of the undisputed best players in the game, a leader, and a difference-maker who could lead a team to the ultimate stage.

They finally have one in Anthony Edwards.

Edwards took the league by storm right out of the gate, and he keeps getting better and better on both ends of the floor.

That, his game, his demeanor, and his physical resemblance have made people compare him to Michael Jordan over and over.

However, Brian Windhorst believes that people should put the comparisons into context.

Talking on ESPN’s Get Up, Windhorst claimed that people shouldn’t feel excited about Edwards now but also about the player he can become.

.@WindhorstESPN is comparing Anthony Edwards to MJ in 1988

“Jordan didn’t win a playoff series until he was age 25. We’re not talking about 1991 Michael Jordan. Ant Edwards is like 1988 Michael Jordan. … We’re excited about where he can be in two or three years.” pic.twitter.com/dI38F0A9Dq

He reminded everyone of the fact that Michael Jordan didn’t win a playoff series until age 25, which is why we shouldn’t compare Edwards to 1991 Jordan but to his 1988 version, when Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were still dominating the league.

Edwards still has most of his basketball career ahead of him, and he’s already doing special things.

Granted, not many people have been able to live up to the Jordan comparisons, with only LeBron James and Kobe Bryant as the two guys who could hold their own against the Black Mamba.
