The last few days have been tough for Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics and it may have cost him his first MVP trophy, according to an NBA insider.

Following Thursday’s disappointing game against the Denver Nuggets, Brian Windhorst made a surprising claim about Tatum.

“Jayson Tatum’s MVP case is over. It is not happening. This has been a brutal, brutal three days,” Windhorst said, according to NBACentral.

Tatum wasn’t at his best during Thursday’s game against the Nuggets.

For the second time this week, Tatum had a chance to pull his team ahead as the game came to a close but wasn’t able to get it done.

Tatum missed a wide-open three-pointer with just 45 seconds left in the fourth quarter, which allowed the Nuggets to secure a 115-109 victory.

The Celtics star ended the night with 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 8 assists on 5-of-13 from the floor.

Just a few nights before, Tatum missed a potential game-winning shot against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the closing seconds of that game.

All in all, it hasn’t been a wonderful week for Boston’s brightest star.

He has indeed been mentioned as a possible MVP winner this year, alongside others like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, and his opponent on Thursday, Nikola Jokic.

But his rash of rough games may have hurt his chances of being the league’s most valuable player.

More importantly, Thursday’s loss exposed some of Boston’s biggest problems against the Nuggets, a team they could see in the NBA Finals.

Because of that, Thursday night wasn’t just bad for Tatum, it was bad for his entire team.
