Despite the Boston Celtics blowing through their opponents on their way to an NBA Finals appearance, there was some initial concern that they wouldn’t be able to beat the Dallas Mavericks in a seven-game series.
The Mavericks were coming off an impressive 4-1 series win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
With Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving looking unstoppable in that series, fans and analysts believed the Celtics were in trouble.
However, Kristaps Porzingis re-joined the team in Game 1 of the series, seemingly bringing the Celtics back to their normal dominance.
Porzingis has been an X factor for the Celtics to this point in the series, but after sustaining an injury in Game 2, the concerns for the Celtics have re-emerged.
As Brian Windhorst recently said via the NBA on ESPN, The Celtics’ “Margin for error has just taken potentially a very big hit.”

Porzingis was a breath of fresh air for the Celtics in Game 1, coming out of the gates hot and providing a great offensive and defensive output.
If he is unable to play in Game 3, it could impact the Celtics’ ability to defend the Mavericks in the paint, as well as losing out on one of their best defenders.
The Celtics have a lot of momentum heading into Dallas, but with Porzingis’ health in question, this could swing the momentum back to the Mavericks.
Of course, the Mavericks still need to bring their ‘A game’ to the table to beat the Celtics, who were able to take down the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers without Porzingis on the floor.
