The Phoenix Suns are keeping tabs on everything that’s going on with Team USA right now.
Steve Kerr has their two best players under his watch right now, and one of them has a long history of injuries.
That’s why they might be very concerned about Kevin Durant’s situation, as he’s been dealing with a calf injury for more than a week now.
Durant was a late scratch from Team USA’s exhibition game vs. Germany, but he’s back at practice and looked close to getting back on the floor.
Nonetheless, that doesn’t seem likely to happen right now, at least according to ESPN insider Brian Windhorst (via Hated Zs).
Kevin Durant Injury Update :
“I think Team USA is gonna be playing Serbia without Kevin Durant… Steve Kerr met with him today and they decided he needs more time with that strained calf… They could fly in a replacement for KD but that’s not gonna happen”

Windhorst stated that Durant and coach Kerr met before the game vs. Germany and decided that he needed more time to get back on the floor.
He also stated that they could still find a replacement for him, but he doesn’t see that as a realistic scenario.
Windhorst also pointed out that Team USA desperately needs to play better offense, which is obviously Durant’s biggest strength.
Still, he hurt his Achilles shortly after suffering a calf strain, and given his age and recent history of injuries, that’s just not a risk he’s willing to take.
There’s still plenty of time for him to heal and be on the floor in the Olympics, but from a career standpoint, it might not be in his best interests.
