Back in 2021, the Cleveland Cavaliers thought they were getting a generational big man.
Evan Mobley, that year’s No. 3 pick, was expected to become one of the best two-way players in the game.
Unfortunately, that just hasn’t been the case thus far.
And while he’s been very good as a defender, his offensive game has yet to catch up with that.
That’s why ESPN insider Brian Windhorst believes he’s been a disappointing player, at least in terms of his development.
Talking on ESPN Cleveland, he claimed that Mobley had all the tools to become an excellent offensive player and he’s simply not, and there are no excuses at this point.
“He has all the tools to be an excellent offensive player and he’s not. He’s just not, and you can make excuses for him from now until the sun goes down, he’s just not developed as an offensive player,” – @WindhorstESPN on Evan Mobley

Mobley has been on the shelf at times with multiple injuries, but people still expected more from him at this point in his career.
He drew comparisons to excellent offensive power forwards such as Chris Bosh and Pau Gasol.
He wasn’t a proficient three-point shooter when he first entered the league, but his mechanics showed signs of promise.
Fast forward to today, and he has yet to flourish, and he doesn’t seem to have much of a touch around the rim, either.
Also, with Jarrett Allen dominating the paint and both ends of the glass, he hasn’t made big strides as a rebounder either.
It’s still early to count him out, and while he’s not an All-Star, he’s not a bust, either.
Whatever the case, it’s also a fact that he hasn’t been as good as advertised, and the sad part is he may never be.
