Judging by their roster and the myriad of NBA talent they have, it’s not a surprise to see Team USA being the odds-on favorite to not only win the gold medal in the Olympics but also to dominate their entire opposition.
Nonetheless, their narrow win over South Sudan proves that they can be beaten, and so does their recent record.
As shown by ESPN insider Brian Windhorst (via Get Up), Team USA won 74 consecutive games between 2007 and 2019.
Ever since, they’ve lost nine times to seven different countries, and it was almost ten times to eight different teams.
Still, Windhorst believes this team is way ahead of the one they had in 2021, adding that the previous Olympic team lost several times in the exhibition games.
More than that, he believes that Anthony Davis will be the catalyst they need to get the job done.
Windhorst stated that Davis has been an absolute beast on the defensive end of the floor and the best player for Team USA.

Truth be told, Team USA is perfect on paper, but the FIBA big man has given them trouble a couple of times in the past.
With that in mind, perhaps Davis should start over Joel Embiid, being that he’s a better interior defender and has plenty of experience at the FIBA level.
Team USA has more than enough resources and talent to get the job done in Paris, but they must approach the games more seriously if they don’t want to have another scare like the one vs. South Sudan.
