The Los Angeles Clippers are in a peculiar spot with superstar Paul George this offseason, as the 34-year-old is heading into unrestricted free agency while likely declining his player option, and it’s unclear if he will be staying in LA or entertaining one of the many teams who will be fighting for his services.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently provided an update on where the two parties stand, and it’s likely not going to make Clippers fans feel any better about the situation.

Windhorst appeared on The Pat McAfee Show today and said that “the Clippers are playing hardball with Paul George right now” and mentioned that they are currently offering him a 3-year deal for less than the max, adding “there are teams out there that I think would give him the 4-year max contract.”

Windhorst believes that the Clippers don’t think George will walk and that he wants to stay in LA.

There have been rumors about the Philadelphia 76ers making a strong run at PG for months, but those rumors have cooled off as the most recent team to enter the sweepstakes appears to be the Golden State Warriors.

Windhorst also said that the Warriors are playing hardball with Klay Thompson and are expecting him to take a pay cut, just like Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green did, though both got 4-year deals.

Teams are starting to push back on star players a bit, and it makes for a fun offseason.

The Finals just ended, and the hot stove is hotter than ever.

You’ve gotta love the NBA offseason.
