The Los Angeles Lakers have failed to land a big name in free agency.

Even though LeBron James was reportedly willing to take a pay cut to land another star, that hasn’t been the case thus far.

Also, James allegedly picked up the phone and called Klay Thompson as soon as free agency started to try and recruit him to Southern California, but that didn’t work.

However, they may have never had a chance against the Dallas Mavericks.

In the latest edition of Get Up, ESPN insider Brian Windhorst explained that the Mavs were an easy decision for Klay.

For starters, he got to watch them win three playoff rounds, which was a big-enough pitch as it was.

More than that, they had GM Nico Harrison and coach Jason Kidd there to let him know specifically how they were going to use him on offense.

The Lakers, on the other hand, face plenty of uncertainty with JJ Redick as coach, as no one knows what his system will look like or even if he’s going to find any sort of success in this new chapter of his career.

The Mavs have a better team, and it gave Thompson the chance to make more money because of the state tax, which was also a big factor to consider.

Thompson has always been a big competitor and all about winning, and the fact of the matter is that the Dallas Mavericks offered him a better opportunity to win another championship than the Los Angeles Lakers, at least for the time being.
