The Philadelphia 76ers staved off elimination with a huge win at Madison Square Garden.

Tyrese Maxey officially introduced himself to the world on the biggest stage, putting the team on his shoulders with a 46-point explosion.

The Sixers needed to go through overtime to take the series back to the City of Brotherly Love, and even if they can’t get past the New York Knicks, they look like a legitimate NBA championship contender when healthy.

With that in mind, Brian Windhorst believes the narrative around this team will change drastically in the offseason.

Joel Embiid couldn’t get it done with either Ben Simmons or James Harden as his running mate, but it clearly seems like that might be the case with Maxey as well.

That’s why, talking on “Get Up,” Windhorst predicted that other free agents like, say, Paul George, could be looking at that situation and want to participate in it.

“If you’re a free agent, like say, Paul George, you’re watching this series going, ‘Look at these dudes. Is there an opportunity there?'”

There have been plenty of rumors about George being the Sixers’ primary target in free agency.

He can become an unrestricted free agent, and the fact that he hasn’t signed a contract extension with the Los Angeles Clippers has raised plenty of eyebrows around the league.

The Sixers have enough cap space to offer him the kind of deal that a player of his caliber would require.

However, being a California native and having his life and his family there, perhaps moving all the way to the East Coast isn’t at the top of George’s priority list for the offseason.
