There was much speculation surrounding what the San Francisco 49ers were going to do with their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Many believed the 49ers would target a defender or offensive lineman, but the team ended up taking a wide receiver.

They took Ricky Pearsall with the 31st overall pick, a surprising decision to many.

The top analysts graded Pearsall as a second—or third-round prospect, so it was shocking to see the 49ers take him in the first round.

After the team drafted him, there was a rumor circulating that his new quarterback, Brock Purdy, played him in high school, which Purdy confirmed recently.

Purdy was a part of the “Dwight Clark Legacy Series,” as shared by the 49ers on NBCS on Twitter, where he confirmed the rumor, but also gave Pearsall credit for his performance in that particular game.

“I will say on his defense, I think Ricky broke the state record in that game,” Purdy said.

Purdy was quick to call out Pearsall’s dominance at the high school level, a sign that both players have a tremendous amount of respect for each other.

Now that they are on the same team, hopefully, this duo can work together to achieve a common goal.

There has been speculation that the 49ers want to move on from either Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel, and Pearsall could help fill in if that is the case.

However, if those two stay on the team, Pearsall is just another target for Purdy to throw to, making this passing attack that much more dangerous.
