It is always exciting to see NFL players make the Pro Bowl roster for the first time, as it is the culmination of years of hard work and an affirmation of the results of that work.

Quarterback Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers took the NFL by storm last year when he replaced injured veteran Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 13 and played brilliantly the rest of the way.

He did so despite being “Mr. Irrelevant,” otherwise known as the last player chosen in the 2022 draft.

The NFL on CBS’ official Twitter account appeared to tab Purdy as the player most likely to make his first Pro Bowl appearance this coming season.

The Iowa State University product put up numbers as a starter last season that rivaled those of almost any starting QB in the league, and he showed the type of poise and acumen that are rarely seen in a rookie.

When Purdy took over under center, the Niners had a four-game winning streak, but he extended it to 10 games and then added two more to it in the playoffs.

Alas, he tore the UCL in his throwing elbow early in the NFC Championship Game versus the Philadelphia Eagles, and without him, his team had no chance of winning.

He is said to be progressing well in his rehab, and there is hope he will be ready for Week 1 of the new season.

If Purdy isn’t ready, either Trey Lance or even Sam Darnold will keep his spot warm until he makes a full recovery.
