The Denver Broncos can brag about having two of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the game: John Elway and Peyton Manning.

So, now that the former is celebrating his 63rd birthday, countless fans took to Twitter to wish him a happy birthday and thank him for all he’s done for the team.

Elway hadn’t played a single snap in the NFL, and he was already a big name in the league.

Following his extraordinary career at Stamford, he literally forced the Baltimore Colts — the team that had the No. 1 pick in that NFL Draft — to trade him away, and he was so good and so impressive as a prospect that the Broncos didn’t hesitate to get a deal done.

That decision paid off almost right away.

The Broncos became one of the teams to beat in the league, with Elway leading them to a couple of wins at the ultimate stage.

Throughout the course of his remarkable career, he completed 4,123 of 7,250 pass attempts (56.9%), throwing for 51,475 yards, 300 touchdowns, and 226 interceptions.

He had a passer rating of 79.9 and added 3,407 rushing yards and 33 rushing touchdowns.

Elway later pursued a career as an executive and continued to be tied to the organization, being perhaps the most prominent figure in franchise history.

Unfortunately for the fans, he was never as good at evaluating other quarterbacks as he was at actually playing the position, and that became painfully evident for the fans over the past decade or so when he struggled to find a replacement for Manning.
