On Thursday night, the Los Angeles Lakers headed into the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft with one goal in mind, and that was to make superstar LeBron James a happy man by drafting his eldest son, Bronny James, with the No. 55 overall pick.

Although it wasn’t considered to be a done deal before the second round got underway, the odds definitely were in favor of the Lakers taking a chance on Bronny James at No. 55, and that’s precisely what ended up happening, even though fans of the storied franchise have been more divided than ever on where this team is headed.

Despite the constant speculation about Bronny James’ future and how many believe he’s not an NBA player, or at least not yet, the Lakers chose to make the move after making another controversial move to hire LeBron James’ podcast co-host JJ Redick to be the new head coach of the team even without any coaching experience.

With Bronny James now officially a member of the Lakers organization, odds have dropped about his chances of winning NBA Rookie of the Year for the 2024-25 NBA season, according to ESPN BET.

Bronny James winning the Rookie of the Year award with the Lakers is a longshot, as it isn’t even known yet if he’ll see the floor on the professional level during his first season in Los Angeles.

There’s a chance that Bronny James spends more time with the team’s G League affiliate, South Bay Lakers, rather than suiting up for the storied franchise next season, which would obviously make it impossible for him to win this regular-season award.
