Bronny James was picked by the Los Angeles Lakers in last week’s NBA draft and is now just months away from entering the league.
Specifics of his contract weren’t known at the time of his signing but they are now coming to light.
According to Shams Charania, James is going to sign a multiyear guaranteed rookie contract with the Lakers.
This is definitely a bit different from what other second-round draft picks get when they join the NBA and it’s a sign that LA is really committed to James.

NBA rules say that first-round draft picks get fully guaranteed deals on a rookie wage scale.
Second-round picks, however, don’t have salary requirements and typically agree to a minimum standard and two-way contract that allows them to play in the NBA and G League.
James is getting a deal that’s better than most other second-rounders.
To some, this is proof that the Lakers really believe in James and think he can develop into someone special.
To others, this is just more evidence that the team favors James because of his father, LeBron.
James was chosen as the 55th pick in the draft, near the very bottom of the pack.
Despite that, he has received a ton of attention and countless headlines.
This is surely influenced by the status of his father but the Lakers might also legitimately think he is an up-and-coming star worthy of a hefty contract.
James has a few months to practice, perfect his game, and prepare for his first season.
Then he can prove that he’s really worth all this money and attention.
