The 2024 NFL season inches closer and closer as teams like the Cleveland Browns are getting ready with some preseason action.
The Browns took on the Green Bay Packers in their first tune-up game of the preseason and lost 23-10, but the team did show some flashes throughout the day.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson got the bulk of the snaps at the quarterback position, throwing 18 times and completing 14 passes for 134 yards.
Tyler Huntley and Jameis Winston also played, though neither veteran signal caller did much during their time on the field.
Deshaun Watson was predictably held out of the first game of the exhibition slate as he continues to work his way back from the shoulder injury that forced him to miss the back half of the 2023 season.
With the second preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings next Saturday, head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Watson would sit out the contest via Scott Petrak of The Chronicle-Telegram.
“As expected, #Browns coach Kevin Stefanski says Deshaun Watson won’t play vs. Vikings next Saturday. He’ll get a bunch of reps during the joint practices. If there was any lingering question, he has been cleared for contact,” Petrak reported.

This should come as no surprise and is the right move from Stefanski and the Browns as there’s no need to risk Watson’s health in preseason.
He’ll get live reps in joint practices with the Vikings which should help him knock off some of the rust.
A healthy Watson is the only way Cleveland hits its ceiling, so ultimately fans should expect not to see much of him in the preseason.
