The Cleveland Browns have one of the best defenses in the game, and they need to make sure things stay that way.
Linebackers might not be the most important part of Jim Schwartz’s defense, but Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah has most definitely earned a big payday.
He was one of the most prominent linebackers in the NFL last season, and while he was a bit of a late bloomer, he hasn’t even reached his prime.
That’s why the Browns would be wise to keep him around for the long run.
With that in mind, Browns insider Brad Stainbrook reported that both parties have been in talks regarding a potential extension.
#Browns and LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah have been in talks regarding a contract extension for “some now time,” but the sides are struggling to “see eye to eye” on a number figure. Unfortunately, though, Stainbrook’s report also states that even though these talks have been ongoing for ‘some time now,’ they have yet to see eye-to-eye.
Owusu-Koramoah didn’t make much of an impact earlier in his career, but he’s now entering the final year of his contract, and there are no reasons to think last year’s success was a fluke.
The linebacker market isn’t as well defined as other positions, so it’s hard to determine what his true market value could be.
The Browns are looking to make a big splash and prove that last season’s success wasn’t a one-year thing, and it might all come down to their stellar defense, so expect these talks to pick up again as we inch closer to the start of the season.
