The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the midst of a transition period following the retirement of superstar quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.
With Brady deciding to call it a career, the Buccaneers have been forced to head in a different direction and, as a result, signed veteran quarterback Baker Mayfield recently.
Now that the rebuilding process is seemingly underway, the team has faced another difficult situation involving star linebacker Devin White, who recently requested to be traded.
Rumors have been swirling about why White requested a trade, with the consensus being he’s fed up with contract negotiations with the team that isn’t going the way he planned.
However, general manager Jason Licht claims the team has no intention of trading White.
Bucs general manager Jason Licht said there are no plans to trade Devin White. He said they do not hold his request for a trade against him. “We all have all the respect in the world for Devin,” Licht said. pic.twitter.com/hyCoobQqnC

Contract disputes seem to be the reason for trade requests more and more these days, as players want to get paid what they believe they’re worth, and it’s hard to blame them in a sport that gives few guarantees and is brutal on the body.
NFL general managers also tend to have these kinds of answers to questions about players that request trades, which means White could still be traded at some point between now and the start of next season.
The one-time Pro Bowler is coming off another solid season for the Buccaneers in which he recorded 124 tackles, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
Only time will tell how this situation pans out in Tampa Bay and whether a resolution comes together before the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.
