Bulls Veteran Expected To Leave The Team In Free Agency

The Chicago Bulls are currently stuck in the worst possible situation any NBA team could be in.

They’re not bad enough to get a top-notch pick, nor has their scouting and development department been very good for years.

They’re not good enough to compete at the highest level or even be considered a lock to make the playoffs.

And with the front office’s apparent reluctance to spend big bucks and get over the luxury tax, they’re not particularly the most desired free agent destination either.

That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see that Andre Drummond could look to take his talents somewhere else.

According to a report by Joe Cowley (via NBA Central), the former Detroit Pistons star will dip his toes in the free-agency pool again, and he’s not expected to be back in the Windy City.

“What remains to be seen, however, is what direction do the Bulls go? Do they prepare for DeMar DeRozan possibly leaving in free agency or if he does return — the more likely scenario — draft his heir apparent… pic.twitter.com/SLTivafbn3

He argued that the Bulls could now look to add another big man in the NBA Draft, so they could have some depth to replace Drummond as well as to push aging veteran Nikola Vucevic.

Lonzo Ball has looked sharp and could be ready to take the floor to start the season, but there will always be injury concerns with him and Zach LaVine.

As for DeMar DeRozan, he’s not getting any younger, so his future with the organization is also a situation to look at.

Whatever the case, it’s hard to envision the Bulls as a contending team in 2024 and for the foreseeable future, even if they keep all their core players.
