JJ Redick is a beloved and respected NBA alumnus.

While never a superstar, he had a very good career as a role player, and he should be considered one of the greatest shooters this game has ever seen.

Redick was a big contributor to playoff teams for most of his career, and he often made a positive impact in the locker room.

Also, just like most NBA players, he knows the game inside out, and he’s proven to be a knowledgeable and insightful analyst during his post-playing days.

All that being said, he still has zero head coaching experience.

That’s why Los Angeles Lakers legend Byron Scott is still not sold on the idea of him becoming the team’s next coach.

Talking to TMZ Sports, the former NBA champion claimed that he didn’t know whether Redick had what it took to lead the team:

“I don’t know if he has what it takes to be a great head coach in the NBA but again if he gets that opportunity, we’ll find out real soon,” Scott said.

That’s a fair assessment.

Redick clearly knows his Xs and Os, and he wouldn’t be the first rookie coach to find success in the game.

Still, his close relationship with LeBron James and the fact that the Lakers usually have the hottest coaching seat in the Association make it seem like he’s just being set up for failure.

Some players might not even trust him because of his friendship and partnership with James, and they might wonder whether the message is coming from the coach or the player.

Paying your dues as a player doesn’t mean you’ve also done it in the coaching scene, and while this could turn out very well, it could also be a disaster.
