The 2023 NFL season hasn’t even begun yet, and there’s already talk about the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and the teams that might be lining up to bring in USC star quarterback Caleb Williams.
Depending on how the college football season goes for Williams and the University of Southern California, Williams is expected to be the prize that every quarterback-needy team in the NFL wants next year, but there seems to be a catch.
As shared by Dov Kleiman, Williams and his family will be paying close attention to the team that could end up with the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft, as there’s a real possibility that the star quarterback could choose to stay at USC for another year if he doesn’t like the team that would be in line to draft him at No. 1, via GQ.

With the Arizona Cardinals potentially being that team that could end up with the No. 1 overall pick and that team seemingly being a disaster behind the scenes, Williams and his family could be using this as a scare tactic to either convince this team or another undesirable team not to tank in 2023.
It’s an interesting time to make a statement like this, as Williams still has a lot of football left to be played this season, and anything can happen where his draft stock potentially plummets for one reason or another.
However, Williams is still projected to be the top pick in the draft right now, and he clearly doesn’t want to end up in a bad situation or follow in the footsteps of other USC stars of the past like Matt Leinart and Matt Barkley.
