The Chicago Bears historically have always been a defensive-minded organization that prioritizes old-school, physical styles of play on both sides of the ball which doesn’t translate to the modern era of offense.
The Bears have never even had a quarterback throw for 4,000 yards or 30 touchdowns in a season, but rookie No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams has a message for Bears fans about their new offense that should make them excited for the first time in a long time.
Bears insider Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Chicago caught up with the QB after Saturday’s 27-3 drubbing of the Cincinnati Bengals and when Williams was asked about his connection with fellow rookie Rome Odunze at wide receiver, Caleb said “We’re going to be explosive.” before adding, “We’re two rooks but we’re trying to catch up to the old guys as fast as we can to make sure that we are right there on par with them to be able to be efficient, function, go out there and be explosive, be on the same page and win games.”
Williams has looked every bit like the franchise savior the Bears need him to be so far through his two preseason outings, and for the first time in roughly a decade, since Jay Cutler was under center, this offense does have a chance to be truly explosive.
The Bears will look to complete an undefeated preseason next Thursday against the Kansas City Chiefs before Williams makes his official Week 1 debut in a battle with the Tennessee Titans on September 8th.
