During the prime of his playing career in the NFL, superstar quarterback Cam Newton was considered to be one of the best players in the game, as he led the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl in his breakout season.
Unfortunately for Newton, he was never able to reach those heights again as the undisputed leader of the Panthers at the peak of his prime, heading in a steady decline, which resulted in him playing a disappointing one-year stint with the New England Patriots and then finished out his career with the Panthers in 2021 when he was 32 years old.
Despite trying to remain active in the NFL, Newton’s skills under center had declined so rapidly that no other team was willing to take a chance on him, resulting in a disappointing end to a career many believed was going to be one of the all-time greats.
In his post-playing career, Newton has become somewhat of a fashion icon while he has also made the transition to being an NFL analyst and podcaster, which seems to be something that a lot of former professional athletes are doing these days to stay connected to the game while also making a decent living.
On the 4th and 1 Show, Newton’s podcast, he admitted that he could’ve played linebacker in the NFL because it was the position he first played when he started playing football at a young age.

With Newton being a large human being at 6’5″ and built like a truck with a muscular frame, this isn’t all that surprising as he may very well have been able to play the linebacker position in the NFL because he had the size and speed to do it.
The real question is, would he have been better off as a linebacker as opposed to a quarterback on the professional level and been able to play longer as a result?
