Cam Newton played quarterback at a high level in the NFL for several years, and he knows excellence when he sees it.
That’s why when the former Carolina standout recently revealed his “favorite” NFL player, it was worth paying attention to.
That player?
Longtime Atlanta Falcons and current Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Julio Jones.
Newton declared that Jones is “the epitome of what you train for…train like…plays being made at a HIGH LEVEL!”

The former quarterback tracked Jones’ career from as early as his high school days to his standout performances at Alabama.
There is no question that Jones set a high bar for himself on the gridiron, and even in his later years he continues to push himself to stay on the playing field.
And Newton should know.
As NFC South rivals, he had the pleasure of watching from the sidelines as Jones lined up against Panther defenses for several seasons.
Who could forget his magical 2015 campaign when he hauled in a staggering 136 catches for 1871 yards?
Jones is in the twilight of a career that appears to be about to fall short of 1,000 receptions.
Playing for the Eagles in 2023, he caught only 11 passes for 74 yards – a pedestrian effort for a single game in his heyday.
But Jones is a surefire Hall of Famer, with 914 receptions coming into the new season and a standard of excellence that is obvious to all.
As Newton correctly noted, he is the epitome of a player who achieves at an incredibly high level and leaves everything on the playing field.
