The St. Louis Cardinals are facing a starting pitching conundrum.
Adam Wainwright is out with a groin injury, and none of their current starters have provided a quality start as of now.
Miles Mikolas, who was supposed to be the team’s ace, has allowed five runs in each of his first two starts.
But down in the minor league system, there are plenty of fresh arms who may soon be knocking on the door of the big leagues.
On Twitter, Cardinals writer Josh Jacobs pointed out a few pitchers that may be in the majors soon, including Tink Hence, Matthew Liberatore, Michael McGreevy, Cooper Hjerpe, and Gordon Graceffo.

The Cardinals home grown arms drought will end soon. And all of this young talent will allow them to invest resources into retaining talent or making major upgrades, rather than patchwork. #STLCards

Jacobs closed his statement by saying that with their young talent replenished, the Cardinals will be able to go out and make some big upgrades.
Some of these stars will be in the big leagues, while others could be used as trade chips to get what the team needs.
Also, the Cardinals haven’t had too many homegrown arms since the Sandy Alcantara trade.
Jack Flaherty and Dakota Hudson are two notable exceptions.
But the future of the team looks bright with all of this pitching depth.
What they are lacking at the moment is the quality of starting pitching needed to win games in the postseason and compete with teams such as the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
But they may change soon as the season progresses, especially if their current group of starters does not improve.
