In the midst of all the drama surrounding the St. Louis Cardinals thanks to a dispute between manager Oli Marmol and center fielder Tyler O’Neill, there are some interesting notes that have emerged.
St. Louis began the season without veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright, who injured his groin in the World Baseball Classic.
However, it appears that he is progressing quite well since he went on the injured list.
According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, the 41-year-old will throw a bullpen session on Thursday.
In addition, Paul DeJong will be headed for a rehab assignment soon.
As for Lars Nootbaar, who just went on the injured list, Marmol says that the Cardinals aren’t sure if he will need a rehab assignment or not.
Some non-hustle related updates btw:
Adam Wainwright throws a bullpen tomorrow. Team is not sure if Lars Nootbaar will require a rehab assignment yet. Paul DeJong starts a rehab assignment with Palm Beach tomorrow as well. He’ll DH for three at-bats. #STLCards

The good news is that Wainwright is making progress and may be back soon, which would be a big boost for the pitching staff.
The Cardinals have yet to turn in a quality start this season, with their best performance by a starter coming from Jack Flaherty on Saturday, who threw five shutout innings, but still walked seven batters.
DeJong’s time with the Cardinals may be limited after he struggled to stay healthy in spring training and could not find consistency at the plate.
Nootbaar injured his thumb on Opening Day, and after no improvement in the days following, St. Louis placed him on the injured list and called up slugger Juan Yepez.
No timetable has been set for Nootbaar or Wainwright as of now, but it appears as if Wainwright is taking steps in the right direction.
