Recently, Jon Heyman of the New York Post commented on the possibility of the St. Louis Cardinals potentially trading Nolan Arenado at the deadline as part of a fire sale.
The Cardinals have had an uncharacteristically bad season to date and posted their worst first-half record since all the way back in 1986.
This has led some to believe that the Cardinals may dangle Arenado and maybe even Paul Goldschmidt.
However, while the Cardinals are expected to sell to some degree, Arenado and Goldschmidt are unlikely to be a part of the sale.
On Twitter, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch pointed out the fact that Arenado could simply veto any trade thanks to his no-trade clause.

Arenado waived his no-trade clause to come to St. Louis from the Colorado Rockies.
Again, it is highly unlikely that the Cardinals will shop Arenado.
However, even if they did entertain the idea, Arenado could simply veto any trade thanks to his no-trade clause.
Arenado has consistently expressed how much he enjoys playing in St. Louis and how he sees the winning potential with the Cardinals.
The star third baseman wanted out of Colorado after they failed to build a contending team around him.
In St. Louis, despite the Cardinals’ bad record, he has played alongside stars such as Goldschmidt, Yadier Molina, Tommy Edman, Adam Wainwright, Willson Contreras, Harrison Bader, Miles Mikolas, Albert Pujols, and others.
The Cardinals are essentially buried in the standings, but Goold made sure to put a cap on any rumors that Arenado will be traded.
