Cardinals May Have Some Pitching Help On The Way

The crux of the St. Louis Cardinals’ struggles has been their starting pitching.

Only left-hander Jordan Montgomery has thrown a quality start, and his quality start is the only one the Cardinals rotation has provided all season long.

After 10 games, the team is 3-7, with the only positive being the hit streak of Jordan Walker.

Walker has joined Eddie Murphy as just the second player to start his career with a hit streak of 10 or more games.

But if the Cardinals are hoping for some pitching reinforcements, some help might be on the way.

According to Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, pitching prospect Gordon Graceffo threw four scoreless innings on 76 pitches for Triple-A Memphis.

He struck out six batters, walked just two, didn’t allow a hit, and his fastball touched 97.5 mph.

Graceffo is one of many pitchers within the Cardinals organization that the front office is very high on.

Perhaps if the Cardinals’ pitching struggles continue, some changes will be made in terms of pitchers getting called up.

Graceffo’s outing is certainly a promising sign for St. Louis.

Certain pitchers such as Steven Matz and Miles Mikolas have struggled.

While they won’t be sent down to the minors, perhaps a trip to the bullpen could be in order when Adam Wainwright comes back.

The Cardinals could also then give pitchers like Graceffo and Matthew Liberatore a chance to shine at the big-league level.

Fans are certainly frustrated, but their options in the minor leagues could give them a way to bridge the gap until the trade deadline.
