With the No. 21 pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, the St. Louis Cardinals selected outfielder and slugger Chase Davis from the University of Arizona.
Davis is from Elk Grove, California, the same town where Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson grew up.
The young outfielder attended Franklin High School, which is the rival school of Elk Grove High School, where Carlson graduated from.
This year, Davis earned several impressive honors.
He made the Division I Baseball All-American Second-Team, was the Pac-12 Tournament MVP, and was a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist.
After the Cardinals made their pick, former pitcher Randy Flores, who is now the team’s scouting director, commented on what Davis brings to the table.

Flores said that Davis is somebody who the Cardinals have had their eye on for quite some time, even dating back to his high school days.
Flores also praised Davis for being able to fight through adversity and burst onto the scene in his sophomore year after not receiving much playing time in his freshman year.
He said that Davis’s sophomore year is what really caught their attention.
Flores talked about some of the things he had heard about Davis in addition to his incredible play on the field, that he has a strong work ethic, a genuine love for the game, and his growth over the past several years.
Davis will join several other outfield prospects in the Cardinals organization such as slugger Moises Gomez.
The Cardinals’ first-round draft pick in 2022 was left-hander Cooper Hjerpe.
This year, St. Louis chose to add to its outfield depth.
