It’s safe to say that the St. Louis Cardinals are imploding.
After winning their first series of the season against the Toronto Blue Jays, they have managed to lose all but two of their following series.
The struggles continued on Wednesday night against the San Francisco Giants, as they fell by a final of 7-3 and lost their third straight series.
The team is now seven games below .500 for the first time since June of 2017.
The Cards’ misfortunes can largely be pinned on their front office for their lack of offseason activity.
On Twitter, one fan criticized new catcher Willson Contreras for the struggles of the pitching staff, but Cardinals writer Bernie Miklasz responded by pointing out that there are other deeply rooted issues with the team.
I don’t want to scapegoat Contreras. It’s too easy, and unfair. There are deep-rooted issues, including a front office that failed to address starting-pitching vulnerability (again.) And the lousy pitching is the catcher’s fault? Thanks for hearing me out. #STLCards https://t.co/iLN13etpzi

As the entirety of the Cardinals fanbase has realized over the past several years, the front office is one of those deeply rooted issues.
Once again, the team was saddled with a poor outing by their starter, as Steven Matz failed to make it through the fifth inning.
While it’s too early to be thinking about trades and the deadline, the Cardinals could pull from their minor league depth to shake things up, specifically with their pitching staff.
Several starters were available over the winter, but the front office failed to act, leaving St. Louis with a dysfunctional rotation.
As a result, the team has only recorded four quality starts, three of which belong to Jordan Montgomery.
As was the case last season and in 2021, St. Louis lacks a true ace and is struggling to piece together a rotation that can help them win on a consistent basis.
