Carlos Beltran is an important figure for the New York Mets organization.
He signed a mammoth deal as a free agent in 2005 and gave the team the best years of his career.
He stayed in Queens until 2011, when his career took him to other locations.
Once retired, he was set to manage the Mets ahead of the 2020 season, but Houston’s sign-stealing scandal and its repercussions took away that chance for him.
Before the 2022 season, the YES Network hired him as a game analyst for Yankees broadcasts.
After that, in February 2023, he left the Yankees broadcast team to join the Mets front office.
That’s the role he has fulfilled since last year.
The job description said, when he got hired, that he would become a special assistant to general manager Billy Eppler.
Eppler is no longer in town, but Beltran is still a big part of the organization and on Friday, he was pictured in the Mets’ camp in Florida.

From his role as a special assistant, Beltran is in charge of working with young players and helping them in their development.
He also serves as a scout when needed.
Beltran has so much to give an MLB team, and the Mets are on the receiving end of his talent and baseball savvy.
If it weren’t for the sign-stealing scandal, he would be managing by now, and with the league slowly moving on, there is a good chance he gets to be an MLB skipper in the not-so-distant future.
For now, however, he is happy to work with the Mets’ young prospects, leaving his mark in the role.
