The New York Yankees have had rotation depth issues all year long.

Three of their best starters opened the year on the injured list: Carlos Rodon, Frankie Montas, and Luis Severino.

Since the start of the season, only Severino has made it back; and other pitchers such as Nestor Cortes Jr. have gotten hurt.

It has been a nightmare at times for manager Aaron Boone.

Rodon, however, seems on the cusp of getting back after weeks of battling a chronic back issue.

The lefty, signed by the Yankees to a six-year, $162 million deal in the offseason, pitched four scoreless innings and struck out four on Sunday in his latest rehab start for the Somerset Patriots, the Yanks’ Double-A affiliate.

It was a clear step in the right direction for the oft-injured southpaw.

He discussed the results of the rehab start.

“’I feel like that was pretty close to normal,’ Rodón said, adding, ‘I feel ready. That’s a decision we have to talk about, where I fall into the rotation and where they schedule it,’” Yanks insider Bryan Hoch tweeted.

During spring training, Rodon battled a forearm issue.

When he got healthy, his back started barking, and a few weeks, cortisone shots, and rehab starts later, he seems ready to take the mound for the Yanks in a regular season game.

It will likely depend on the rest of the rotation and where Rodon falls, but the odds he makes his next start in MLB are high.

He will inject the Yankees’ staff with some much-needed talent: he posted a 2.88 ERA and struck out 237 hitters last year after dominating in 2021, too.

He could be a difference-maker for New York.
