On Monday night, the Denver Nuggets were able to finish their incredible season in the best way possible, with the team lifting the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the first time in the franchise’s history.

Although the Miami Heat gave it everything they had left in the tank, the Nuggets proved to be the better team and got the win to end the NBA Finals in Game 5 at Ball Arena in Denver.

With the Nuggets finally able to win that elusive NBA title, many players in the league shared their thoughts and congratulated Nikola Jokic and company for what they accomplished.

This included former Nuggets superstar Carmelo Anthony, who recently retired and congratulated the team that drafted him out of Syracuse in 2003.

Although Anthony played almost two decades in the league and was on some talented squads, especially during his time in Denver, playing alongside the likes of Chauncey Billups and Allen Iverson at different times, he was never able to win a title.

That said, Anthony seeing his former team win it all the same year he decided to retire was probably a bit of a gut punch and a tough pill to swallow.

However, Anthony has seemingly come to terms with the fact that his playing career is over and that he’ll never be called an NBA champion.

Despite coming up short during his time in the league, Anthony won a title with Syracuse in college and won multiple gold medals with Team USA, which might be enough to soften the blow of not getting a ring in the NBA.
