Carmelo Anthony is no longer an active player in the NBA but that doesn’t mean he isn’t supremely talented.

In fact, his son believes that Anthony could still beat anybody who is still playing.

“People think retirement is 60-year-olds retiring to sit down in their bed all day. He still would fry anybody in the NBA,” Kiyan said, according to Overtime, via NBA Buzz.

Kiyan Anthony says his dad, Carmelo Anthony, would “still fry anybody in the NBA.”

Let’s not act like Melo didn’t average 13.3 PPG on 37.5 3P% in his final season at 37 years old!

Is Melo better than some NBA players right now?

As NBA Buzz pointed out, Anthony was still showing a lot of skill even as his NBA career wound down.

He averaged 13.3 points and 4.2 rebounds on 44.1% from the floor and 37.5% from the three-point line during his last year with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022.

While Anthony definitely wasn’t playing as much during his 19th season, he was still a very strong and capable player.

He was a crucial part of the Lakers’ roster during that year and helped them out a lot when they needed it most.

Many people expected Anthony to keep playing in the league after his sole year with the purple and gold.

But the Lakers didn’t offer him another contract and free agency didn’t find him a different home in the NBA.

There were surely offers from overseas but Anthony instead chose to hang up the jersey and walked away.

For his career, he averaged 22.5 points and 6.2 rebounds with a 44.7% field goal average.

His son makes a fair point: retirement for NBA athletes is not like retirement for other people.

Anthony is just 39 years old and retains his love of the game.

Footage of him since retiring shows that he can still play too.

Anthony may no longer be an NBA star but he is still a very talented and intimidating player.
