His condition was exacerbated by long-term high blood pressure.
Jones began his pro career with the Houston Texans in 2007.
In 2012, he signed with the Baltimore Ravens and had his best year in the NFL.
That season Jones caught just 30 passes, but he was also a potent punt and kick returner.
Jones tied an NFL record in an October game against Dallas by taking a kickoff 108 yards to the house.
Weeks later, he returned a kick against Oakland 105 yards for a score.
That made Jones the first player in NFL history to return two kicks 105 yards or more in a single season.
Baltimore advanced to the postseason that year and Jones made his first Pro Bowl.
Against the Denver Broncos in the AFC title game, the Ravens were down a touchdown, and time was running out.
A desperation heave by quarterback Joe Flacco found its way into Jones’s arms for a 70-yard touchdown to send the game into overtime.
After Baltimore beat Denver in the extra period, they played San Francisco in Super Bowl XLVII.
During the contest, Jones caught a 56-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
He then stunned the 49ers when he returned the second-half kickoff 108 yards for another touchdown.
That set a Super Bowl record and Jones set another game record by being the first player to score a receiving and return touchdown.
After leaving the NFL in 2015, Jones got into coaching and was most recently the receivers coach at Alabama State University.
