The Cleveland Cavaliers finally have a coach.

Now, Kenny Atkinson needs to know where he stands and who he’s going to work with.

The Cavs have made keeping Donovan Mitchell their No. 1 priority, and all signs point at him signing a contract extension.

For weeks, the word around the league was that Mitchell staying meant that Darius Garland was going to be traded.

Apparently, his camp wasn’t satisfied with his current situation and would rather watch him play somewhere else as a lead guard.

However, ESPN insider Zach Lowe respectfully disagrees with that notion.

Recently, the renowned insider stated that contrary to popular belief, Garland is actually happy in Cleveland and won’t push for a trade.

The San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers have been mentioned as potential destinations for him, but he just doesn’t see that happening unless they get blown away by an offer, which is unlikely to happen at this point (via Legion Hoops).

REPORT: Darius Garland could be staying in Cleveland, per @ZachLowe_NBA.

Garland is a very good player and he seemed to be a solid fit next to Mitchell, but his development has kind of stalled.

His usage dropped as soon as Mitchell got there, and he left plenty to be desired in the playoffs, particularly when his co-star didn’t suit up.

His trade value might not be particularly high right now, and given his upside, the Cavs should be wary about moving on from him unless they get fair value in return.

Still, everything can change in the blink of an eye in this league.
