Cavs GM Had Telling Statement About Evan Mobley

Three years ago, it seemed like the Cleveland Cavaliers were getting a generational talent at the PF/C spot with Evan Mobley.

The USC product drew comparisons to former greats like Kevin Garnett and Chris Bosh, not only for his defensive prowess but also because of his offensive upside.

It’s been three years since he made it to the league, and while the defense has been there, the offense never truly caught up.

That has been a big talking point among Cavaliers fans for quite a while now, and even the front office has been disappointed with how things have turned out.

That’s why GM Koby Altman recently admitted that he didn’t feel like the team made it a priority to unlock his full potential this season, adding that they’ll shift their focus to that from now on (via Evan Dammarell).

“Did we get away from unlocking his potential fully? I think we did this year. I think that needs to be a focal point this summer.”#Cavs POBO Koby Altman on Evan Mobley’s third season.

Granted, trading for Donovan Mitchell changed the plans in Cleveland, as he became the focal point of the offense, and they didn’t have that much time to wait for Mobley to develop.

Even so, he was supposed to be a franchise cornerstone, and he’s most likely going to get a max rookie extension, so it only makes sense that the team also puts an emphasis on him.

Jarrett Allen will most likely be on his way out, which should open up more space for Mobley in the paint.

As for his face-up game, his shooting, or his moves on the elbow, he’s going to have to put in a lot of work in the offseason to prove he can still be a star in this league.
