The Cleveland Cavaliers parted ways with head coach J.B. Bickerstaff.
Some were shocked to see that happen, as the team had overachieved despite a plethora of injuries.
They had the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference and could’ve even gotten the No. 3 or No. 2 seeds.
They also won a playoff series, and not many teams would’ve stood a chance against the Boston Celtics anyways.
Even so, it seemed like Bickerstaff had already overstayed his welcome in Ohio, and it’s officially the start of a new era for the Cavs.
With that in mind, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the team has been granted permission to interview two top assistants: Kenny Atkinson of the Golden State Warriors, and James Borrego of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Woj adds that this will be an “expansive interview process” that will include several other candidates.
Both Atkinson and Borrego come with previous head coaching experience with the Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets, respectively, and they’ve been on multiple teams’ shortlists for their coaching vacancies over the years.
More than that, the Cavs also need to make some major decisions about their roster.
It’s become painfully evident that Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell aren’t a good fit together, and they’ll have to move the former if they’re able to sign the latter to a contract extension.
The same goes for their frontcourt with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, with Allen most likely being on his way out after reportedly rubbing his teammates the wrong way with his injury in the playoffs.
