For the last few weeks, it’s been apparent that the Boston Celtics would end the regular season with the best record in the NBA.

But on Wednesday night, they did something truly special that only made this year more special.

As noted by Basketball Reference and others, the Celtics clinched their first 60-win season since 2008-09 on Wednesday when they beat the Oklahoma City Thunder.

For those keeping track, the Celtics lost in the Eastern Conference semifinals during their last 60-win season.

They are hoping that isn’t the case this year.

Boston is certainly in great shape to go far in the postseason.

No other team in the East comes close to the Celtics and the second-seed Milwaukee Bucks have a 47-29 record.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have the second-best record in the league at 53-23.

Because of the number of wins they have accumulated, the Celtics are the most successful and feared team in the entire Association.

That helps their chances in the playoffs, of course, but it also puts a lot of huge expectations on them.

Boston fans want the very best from their team and they are expecting a strong Finals run.

Anything short of that will be seen as a disappointment and an underwhelming end to such an explosive year.

No NBA team is perfect and the Celtics still have their fair share of problems but they will need to work extra hard to correct them now.

They have acquired a truly astonishing record but that has raised expectations and also put a big target on their backs for the playoffs.

The Celtics also had a 60-win season in 2007-08 and ended up winning the Finals.

They are hoping that is how this year concludes.
