When the Boston Celtics receive their championship rings at the start of the 2024-25 NBA season, they won’t just be celebrating the team they have now, but the players and icons who came before.
Courtside Buzz is reporting that the Celtics will honor 96-year-old six-time NBA champion Bob Cousy with a 2024 ring at their home opener on Oct. 22.
Cousy, who is considered the first great point guard of the NBA, said he wanted to see the Celtics win one more championship before the end of his life and he will be honored with another ring.

Nicknamed “The Houdini of the Hardwood,” Cousy was a massive part of the Celtics for 13 seasons in the 1950s and ’60s.
He earned 13 All-Star appearances and six NBA titles as well.
Cousy was also an eight-time assist champion, All-Star MVP twice, and the 1956-57 NBA MVP.
On top of that, he was the first player to reach 4,000, 5,000, and 6,000 career assists.
Since the March 2024 passing of Bob Harrison, Cousy is now the oldest living NBA champion and is held in high regard as league royalty.
The Celtics wouldn’t be the iconic franchise they are today if it weren’t for the hard work and terrific skill of Cousy, so it only makes sense that he be part of their celebration in the fall.
Cousy hasn’t remained entirely out of the limelight over the years and still appears at Celtics games, and occasionally makes broadcast appearances.
He clearly still loves the team that he played so well for, and they cherish him as well.
Celtics fans were already excited to see their team get championships rings in October, but the inclusion of Cousy makes it even more special.
