Despite suffering their first loss of the 2023 season last week, the San Francisco 49ers are still regarded by most as the best team in the NFL this year heading into Week 7.
At the same time, there are also people who believe the Detroit Lions and their 5-1 record are currently the best team in the league.
Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson is among those who think the Lions are better than the 49ers right now, and he recently explained why.
“It’s all about momentum. Right now, the Detroit Lions have the momentum in the way they’re playing right now… Something about the Detroit Lions is special.”

At 5-1 through the first six weeks of the season, it’s not a bold claim to say that Detroit is currently one of the best teams in the league.
But Johnson likely isn’t among the majority with his belief that the Lions are currently better than the 49ers.
Unlike San Francisco, who demolished a 4-2 Dallas Cowboys team by 32 points in Week 5, Detroit still has to prove that they can hang with the other top teams in their conference.
Yes, the Lions opened up the season with a win over the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
However, it’s clear that the current version of the Chiefs is not as talented as some of the teams they’ve put out on the field in the recent past, so that victory for Detroit might be viewed by some as a little less impressive than it was a few weeks ago.
The Lions’ upcoming Week 7 matchup will actually be a good opportunity to see how talented they truly are, as they will head out on the road to attempt to defeat the 4-2 Baltimore Ravens.
