The New York Knicks had been craving a star since Carmelo Anthony.
Kristaps Porzingis looked to be that guy but things didn’t work out.
Then, RJ Barrett failed to take that leap forward and fulfill his sky-high potential, and Julius Randle’s run as a dominant big was short-lived.
Now, it seems like they’ve finally found themselves a franchise-caliber player in Jalen Brunson.
With that in mind, NBA legend Charles Barkley went on record to say that Brunson has made the Knicks relevant again for the first time since Patrick Ewing (via CJ Zero and Legion Hoops).
“Jalen Brunson has made the Knicks relevant for the first time since Patrick Ewing,” Barkley said.

Of course, this is a bit of a stretch, as Mike D’Antoni’s Knicks were also relevant; they just happened to coexist with the Miami Heat’s Big 3 of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh.
Whatever the case, Brunson has silenced every single one of his doubters from the very second he set foot in Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks drew some serious backlash and criticism for signing him to such a big contract despite spending most of his career as a backup for the Dallas Mavericks.
Fast forward to today, and he’s playing like the best point guard in the Eastern Conference, becoming a dominant offensive force and stepping up as Tom Thibodeau’s team’s leader.
The Knicks are still a piece away from becoming a legitimate championship contender, but they’ve finally found their star.
