The consensus right now in the NBA as the regular season comes to a close is that superstars Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic are the top two candidates for the NBA MVP award.
There’s been a lot of debate over the last few months over which one of these two will win the regular-season award, with Embiid potentially taking the lead in the final stretch.
However, NBA legend Charles Barkley has somewhat of a different take, as he believes it is down to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Embiid for MVP.
Ultimately though, Barkley would go with Embiid from his beloved Philadelphia 76ers if he had a vote, as he said on The Dan Patrick Show.
Charles Barkley doesn’t have an #NBA MVP vote but says if he had one it would come down to Joel Embiid and Giannis, and he’d probably give it to Embiid because he hasn’t won one yet.

If Jokic were to win the award this year, it would be the third time in a row that he’s been named NBA MVP, which is something only a few players in the history of the league have been able to do, including arguably the greatest player of all time in Michael Jordan.
As Barkley points out, Embiid has never won the regular-season award, and it may be time for a change even though Jokic is deserving once again.
Antetokounmpo, who has also won two of these awards in the past, also deserves the award as the leader of arguably the best team in the league, the Milwaukee Bucks.
In the end, Embiid likely gets his first after the incredible regular season that he’s had, which will also be the first Michael Jordan Trophy named after the five-time award winner.
