Sometimes, doing too much won’t get you anywhere in the NBA.
It’s not always about stacking up talent; it’s also about putting together a team that makes sense.
That’s why, as much as some were impressed by the Phoenix Suns and their Big 3, some wondered whether their lack of depth and a traditional point guard would come back to haunt them.
The Suns struggled to find consistency in the regular season, especially late in games, and most of that had to do with their offense becoming stagnant and predictable.
Nonetheless, they didn’t address that situation, and they’re now facing an 0-2 deficit in the first round of the playoffs.
With that in mind, Hall of Famer and Suns legend Charles Barkley claimed that they were in trouble and they could’ve avoided this situation by just getting a serviceable point guard (via NBA on TNT).
“They never addressed the point guard situation…They just needed a serviceable point guard.”

Of course, Chris Paul’s massive contract was a tough pill to swallow, so it made sense to move him.
Still, it’s not like they needed to add Stephen Curry or Magic Johnson as his replacement; they just needed a true and traditional point guard to help orchestrate the offense, someone like Tyus Jones.
The playoffs are a different thing from the regular season.
Adjustments are more important, and teams tend to get exposed.
The Suns will have two chances to turn things around at home, but even if that happens, it’s hard to envision them getting much further in the playoffs with their current roster.
