Every now and then, NBA fans witness an all-time great passing the torch to his successor.
However, on some rare occasions, we’ve also seen an up-and-coming star take the league by storm and make sure to get what he claims to deserve.
We saw that with Kobe Bryant, and we’re seeing that again with Anthony Edwards.
The Minnesota Timberwolves star doesn’t want to wait for his turn to be the face of the league; he’s ready to take the torch right off anybody’s hands.
That’s why Hall of Famer Charles Barkley claims to be proud and excited about him.
Talking on NBA on TNT after the Timberwolves’ Game 3 win over the Phoenix Suns, he claimed that he absolutely loved the fact that Edwards wasn’t waiting on anybody to pass him the torch; he was going to take it anyway.
“Anthony Edwards is letting everybody on notice. ‘Yeah, I’m not gonna wait for y’all to give me anything, I’m gonna take it all,’ and I love it.”

Edwards has repeatedly admitted that Kevin Durant was his favorite player growing up, but he’s not bothered by competing against his idol.
If anything, he’s proving himself on the biggest stage, going toe-to-toe with him, guarding him, scoring on him, and even letting him know that his time is up.
This is the kind of competitive spirit that has been lacking in the league for quite a while now.
Edwards doesn’t want to be friends with anybody, he doesn’t want to team up with anybody, and he doesn’t want his team to trade for anybody.
