The defending World Series champion Houston Astros have received a major boost from their core of young stars, one that includes outfielder Chas McCormick.

McCormick was a key piece in their run to their second World Series title last October.

But it wasn’t until Michael Brantley was injured that he got his opportunity.

Last year on June 26, the young center fielder was sent down to Triple-A.

However, he was called back up before he could report due to Brantley’s injury.

Since then, he has had 455 plate appearances and has posted some very impressive stats.

On Twitter, Tony Adams, an Astros fan, pointed out some of these impressive numbers.

On June 26, 2022, Chas McCormick was optioned to the Triple-A Space Cowboys. Before he could report, he was recalled to the Astros due to Brantley’s injury. In the 455 plate appearances since then, @chazzyfizzz is batting:

139 wRC+
.275 AVG
.366 OBP
.474 SLG
.839 OPS
.366 wOBA

Since being called back to the majors after Brantley went on the injured list, McCormick has posted a 139 wRC+.

He has also hit for a .275 average, reached base at a .366 clip, slugged .474, and posted an OPS of .839.

In addition, he has a weighted on-base average of .366.

Needless to say, McCormick took advantage of his opportunity.

Just when it appeared he was headed back down to Triple-A, a spot opened up.

McCormick did not miss his chance and has since claimed the starting center field job for the Astros.

And sure enough, he became a key piece for the Astros when they made their run to their fourth World Series appearances over the last six years.

He helped guide the Astros to yet another title last October and became a fan-favorite.

But it was all thanks to that opportunity that opened up just after he was sent down.
