Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel knows a thing or two about great quarterbacks, as he backed up Drew Brees, Matthew Stafford, and Justin Herbert in his career.

He was recently impressed with two rookies who he believes are the most pro-ready out of one of the deepest quarterback classes the league has ever seen.

After Saturday night’s slate of preseason games, Daniel claimed on X that Chicago Bears No. 1 pick Caleb Williams and Minnesota Vikings No. 10 pick J.J. McCarthy are the two rookie QBs who are “the most pro-ready thru the first week of preseason games and it’s not really close.”

Both rookies shined in their debuts, with Williams putting up 96 passing yards on 4-of-7 attempts, while McCarthy got much more playing time since he’s presumably the going to start the regular season as the backup and went 11-for-17 for 188 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception, while also running for 18 yards on two attempts.

Williams looked like a veteran already and made some incredible throws even though he only led two series, including throwing a dime deep down the field while scrambling to his right, as well as a sneaky no-look screen pass while facing pressure up front.

You never want to get too excited over a preseason game, but both Williams and McCarthy showed just about as much as any fan could expect from them.

Jayden Daniels and Michael Penix Jr. also looked great in their debuts and should be mentioned as well, as neither turned the ball over and both were efficient and explosive.
