The Oklahoma City Thunder arguably got better this summer but they had to say goodbye to one of their most well-known stars.
Chet Holmgren is speaking about parting ways with Josh Giddey, who was traded to the Chicago Bulls for Alex Caruso.
Holmgren told the “Podcast P” show that he was very sad to see Giddey go but they will remain close friends even though they no longer share a locker room.
He is also obviously excited for what may come in the new season with the addition of Caruso.
The Thunder swapped Giddey for Caruso at the beginning of the offseason, which was a somewhat surprising move.
But it’s also a choice that could improve the already-great Thunder.
Caruso is one of the best defensive players in the NBA and is consistently celebrated as someone who can shut down and block just about any opponent.
As for Giddey, he will now try his hardest to make an impression on the Bulls.
He did some impressive work for the Thunder but there became less and less space for him as the years went on and it seemed like he wouldn’t be in Oklahoma City for much longer.
So, while it hurts Holmgren to see his friend leave the team, it isn’t all that surprising.
Most people agree that the Thunder did well with the trade that lost them Giddey.
They already had a dominant defense but it could get even better in 2024-25 thanks to the expert skills of Caruso.
And even though they aren’t playing together anymore, Holmgren, Giddey, and the rest of the Thunder roster will remain friends.
