The Kansas City Chiefs are going to go for a Super Bowl three-peat starting this fall, and the hard work that results in championships starts right now early in the offseason.

For players, that means allowing their bodies to rest and recover, as well as treating any outstanding injuries.

Cornerback Jaylen Watson apparently played most of the 2023 season with a torn labrum in his shoulder, and on Twitter, he said he had successful surgery to fix the ailment.

Surgery was a success I got my labrum in week 2!! Was given the option to get surgery or try to play the remainder of the season 5 months later 2x Super Bowl Champ!! A lot of discomfort a lot of pain this year but worth every moment pic.twitter.com/3OoHWhCIcy

Playing through pain and even injury is pretty much a requirement for pro athletes, especially NFL players, and Watson certainly showed his mettle throughout the 2023 campaign.

Watson, a seventh-round draft pick in 2022, has emerged as a key depth piece in the secondary for Kansas City, a team that had to change its identity on the fly.

Even though they won with a fast-moving, high-scoring offense in past years, they adopted a more conservative approach in 2023 and became one of the NFL’s best defensive teams by finishing second in points and total yards allowed.

They have a number of young contributors in their secondary, including All-Pro First-Team cornerback Trent McDuffie, fellow starting corner L’Jarius Sneed, and safety Bryan Cook.

While the Chiefs used their franchise tag on Sneed, he has been granted permission to seek a trade, and plenty expect him to be gone before the new season starts.

It is unknown when Watson will be able to resume full football activities again, as it can take a good period of time to make a full recovery from labrum surgery.
