The Kansas City Chiefs are all set at the quarterback position.
They have the best in business, and Patrick Mahomes stands on a tier of his own right now.
However, even if they clearly don’t miss anybody else, the fans and the organization still hold Alex Smith in very high regard.
He was their star and leader in the pre-Mahomes era, and they will always embrace and welcome him with open arms.
That’s why the former quarterback pulled up to training camp, and Travis Kelce looked thrilled to have him there.

Nobody, not even the most optimistic Chiefs fan ever thought Mahomes would turn out to be this good, especially this fast.
He drew mixed reviews during his days in college, and some thought he was erratic and would never be a starting-caliber quarterback.
That’s why trading up to get him in the first round of the NFL Draft was such a debated move at the time, particularly considering the fact that they still had Alex Smith there.
Fortunately for everybody, Smith embraced Mahomes and didn’t think of him as competition.
He was his mentor and taught him the ropes of the game, paving the way for him to become the superstar he is nowadays.
The Chiefs weren’t able to get to the Super Bowl with Smith at the helm, but he still played a crucial part in their story.
For that, most of their loyal fans will always hold a special place in their hearts for him.
