Anytime the Kansas City Chiefs make a few roster moves, it is going to be news.

Recently, the team made five moves in an effort to round out both the 53-man roster and the practice squad.

The team announced that they signed veteran running back Samaje Perine to the 53-man roster, signed cornerback Nic Jones and former Patriots quarterback Bailey Zappe to the practice squad, waived cornerback Eric Scott, and terminated the contract of practice squad running back Emani Bailey.

The two biggest names within these moves are undoubtedly Samaje Perine and Bailey Zappe.

Starting with Perine, the former Oklahoma Sooner is now on his fifth different team in eight years.

A former fourth-round pick by Washington in 2017, Perine holds the single-season NCAA record for most rushing yards in a game (427).

Mostly a role player throughout his NFL career, Perine’s best season came as a rookie in 2017 when he put up a total of 785 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns.

He also scored six total touchdowns for the Cincinnati Bengals two seasons ago.

With Zappe, the Chiefs are adding another veteran quarterback with some starting experience.

Behind MVP Patrick Mahomes sits former Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and Washington Commanders starter Carson Wentz.

Now, Zappe is going to the practice squad, but he still brings relief to head coach Andy Reid seeing as he has started eight games over his first two NFL seasons.

If a quarterback goes down, Zappe, the NCAA’s single-season passing and touchdowns leader, likely will be the next man up to go onto the 53-man roster.
